How to monitor file and folder access on a NAS

  how audit or monitor nas? try open share , enable auditing  but not have permission?

if take ownership break permissions?

please refer following steps setup auditing. meanwhile think nas should have own way audit file accessing, try confirm manufacturer first.

enabling file auditing 2-step process.

[1] configure "audit object access" in ad group policy or on server's local gpo. setting located under computer configuration-->windows settings-->security settings-->local policies-->audit policies. enable success/failure auditing "audit object access."

[2] configure audit entry on specific folder(s) wish audit. right-click on folder-->properties-->advanced. auditing tab, click add, enter users/groups whom wish audit , actions wish audit - auditing full control create audit entry every time opens/changes/closes/deletes file, or can audit delete operations.
