 hi , i have been asked make dr plan our domain. have 2 dcs , trying make baremetal restore of our primary dc (server 2008r2 enterprise) . fsmo roles reside on server . did , 1. took system state backup d: drive using server backup utility 2. full server backup remote share 3. restored baremetal image same hardware(but new server same size of disk) on test network 4. after completion of restore process removed network cable , reboot dsrm mode 5. issued directory restore password , issued  " wbadmin  start systemstaterecovery -backuptarget:d -authsysvol , process completed without errors when booted in nomal mode after recovey  , can not login dc  giving domain admin credentials . lite blue scree appears hole time. tried several reboots still in same state. * not authorized connect recovered dc production lan ( promoting new server dc ) *   can not keep dc on dr site  is there any  possible solutions in case ?   hi i'll make  myself  c

we have 2 domains: 1) ourcompany.com (windows server 2003 active directory. used in-house email, development, etc.) 2) ourcompany-production.com (windows server 2003 active directory. contains database , web servers exposed our clients , customers) there lot of management tasks because there no trusts established between domains , creates lot of work our staff. purposed idea of creating trust between company domain , production domain. however, colleagues said idea had been brought before discouraged because security risk. i don't feel great security risk. theory if attacked in house or in production it's still attack , should have been prevented. while colleagues argued seperation of trust helps mitigate severity (or spread) of attack. i love expert oppinions on matter? should we? shoudn't we? etc. etc. also, looking move server 2008 well. having trust established prior migration create lot of work upgrades, or not really? thank input. cheers! hi,

i building remoteapp farm based on windows 2008 r2. every remoteapp have created user gpo targeted security group has same name remoteapp. way can deploy remoteapp based on group membership. working had create addition gpo settings. 1. create gpo created "remotepackages" folder in program files of client. user had no permissions create files in folder. 2. create gpo changes permissions of folder user has write permissions in folder. 3. set gpo prio gpo ntfs changes runs after folder has created, prevents computer reboot. 4. create gpo (user) deploying remoteapp msi, , set option install @ logon, , uninstall when out of scope. 5. remoteapp msi, creates file extension associations, creates .rdp , .ico file in "remotepackages" , places shortcuts on desktop , startmenu. this installs remote app when user logs on has rights use example word. so far installing remoteapps. so far good. but: when decide user x has no rights anymore use word, remove him

i had 2 dc's, 1 2k3 64bit , other 2k3 32bit.  i experienced unc rollback on 32bit server, , removed ad ds , performed metadata cleanup.  i trying promote 32bit server dc, receiving ldap connection error. exact text: the operation failed because: ldap connection not established domain controller dc1.corp.com. good day everyone, i'm trying away our old, outdated kiosk software in favor of using native features of windows 7(32x) professional accomplish this. have few pcs @ work used soley guests , need them locked down while still functional of needs. have decent start going have accomplished several items via group policy enforced on standard user profile that needed however, i'm finding few things rather difficult find answers to. here looking for: currently have documents folder available guests , desktop , drives completely locked down, want. however, need these aspects:   01. guests should not able alter or delete documents folder (which can). 02 in group policy settings, must have turned on hides files within documents folder. know policy since can't seem find it? if create file in folder stay there until close folder , reopen it, becomes hidden. 03. need 2 places file can saved documents folder and/or guest thumb drive, including downloads ie. 04. need u

i have hard-lockup problem server 2008 installation on laptop. works fine except when stop extending second external monitor.  if run machine boot-up shutdown without attaching second monitor, fine. if attach monitor , extend desktop still works fine day long , shut-down/reboot fine. if, however, extend desktop second monitor works fine until either attempt un extend desktop, or if try suspend. in either case, laptop shut down other desktop , put dialog asking if approve of new settings (where counts down 15 seconds) , @ point during countdown or if click ok hard-lock machine... ctrl-alt-del , other attempts machine respond ignored. closing lid not suspend.. it's plain locked.  no bluescreen, no memory dump, no events. this happens no matter applications running.   hi,   this display driver compatibility issue, require debugging.unfortunately, debugging beyond can in public forum. suggestion contact microsoft customerservice , support (css) via telephone dedicated support

we have 2 windows 2003 domain controllers here in our domain. recently dc2 rebooted patch in middle of night and had keyboard error (you know 1 need press f1 to continue). easy fix disturbed me while server was "down" none of users able login domain. if they weren't looking the other server for authentication, dns, dhcp etc. is client-side dns setting or time out value can changed? is there way ensure if goes down again, users redirected to other dc quickly? please help! hello, i have problem here. i have setup disconnected wsus @ office. i followed every path of manual of wsus.  selected , approved updates on conncted server. got downloaded. copied both wsuscontent folder , metadata exported in manual , transfered disconnected wsus. then imported meta data . server showing still downloading updates 2.55mb of 1398 mb. , not updating after week. some of forums suggesting acl problem.  dont know user accounts should have access rights. can explain me possible reasons of trouble. if issue of acl, should check user accounts, access rights etc. is wsuscontent folder in disconnected server should in same drive (c;\, d:\ etc.) as 1 in conncted wsus server.  hope guests group has nothing wsus guests disabled gp policy on domain. can me solution. i in deep trouble clients have reported not getting updated. waiting....     generally caused 1 of 4 situations: you imported wsuscontent folder instead of wsuscontent\* subfolders -- caus
