How to do virtualization for the independent guy
as independent developer, in constant need virtual environments, not development testing. use them on server , copy them laptop presentations, demos, , user acceptance.
newsid great tool needed. create base virtuals xp/iis, xp/sql server, vista/vs2008, etc. each customer clone base, run newsid, whatever needed save off source code , chuck whole environment.
with understanding newsid going way of dinosaur, looking way perform same functionality.
requirements
1) able use virtual on server , laptop
2) not have go through windows activation every time each virtual
3) not have conflicts due sids
i have msdn subscription, have enough licenses need do. don't want have 40 virtuals - 10 each of xp/vista/2003/2008 each different license activated sitting around. waste of disk space. after have install needed (iis/sql server, etc). waste of time.
any thoughts on how virtualization independent guy appreciated.
i seldom demos on laptops anymore easy rdp lab , demo way. however, suppose if wanted export , import vms onto laptop. i've done type of configuration using both hyper-v , vmware workstation. if had laptop demos again, @ vmware workstation. have virtualpc on windows 7 laptop have not used yet, maybe better now, found vmware workstation work , easy use.
i agree newsid made life easy, , continue work fine on pre-2008 r2 systems assuming still have copy of noticed no longer available download.
