hi, have small 3 server environment (win 2012), 1 pdc, , 2 servers running hyper-v. have 8 or hyper v machines on 1 of servers , using hyper-v replica replicate of them other server. woud upgrade provide hot migration/failover vm's. considering having storage cluster 2 machines storage , vm cluster 2 machines migration. confusion cluster? cluster physical machines, vm's or both? note sql server running on 1 of vm's. lee with 3 physical servers, require third party software in order able build highly available cluster vms.  if want high availability vms, need cluster physical hyper-v hosts.  if want high availability application, can cluster vms running application. a cluster requires domain environment.  have that.  (btw, idea have @ least 2 dcs, too.) hyper-v failover clustering requires shared storage on store vms.  microsoft cluster requires external shared storage - iscsi, sas, pcie raid controllers, fc, smb 3.0, fcoe - comes in lot of forms.  third party

the following problem occurs windows server 2008 r2, 2012 , 2012 r2, datacenter or standard.  i have external sas enclosure 7 optical drives , 1 hot-swap sas/sata bay connects using 2 sff-8088 connectors (no internal sas expander, etc.).  purpose use 7 bluray writers write multiple copies of large database simultaneously.  optical drives used read datasets come on multiple discs (usually 8-12 per dataset , 15 datasets @ time).  because of volume, more optical drives better.  regardless of type of sas controller used connect enclosure, significant functionality missing. for writing, best connect directly optical drives (which own buffering) hba seem better hardware raid controller.  have tried several hbas, including lsi-9211, lsi-9240-it, dell h310-it.  in cases, windows sees four dvd drives , hot-swap bay.  drives windows sees work reading , writing.  megaraid storage manager (lsi controller software) sees 7 optical drives , hot-swap bay.  lsi says must windows problem.

hi all we have requirement secure traffic ipsec security connection rules endpoint on internet reverse proxy iis arr server on our internal network. we have created ipsec rule on iis arr server states endpoint 1 , endpoint 2 - 172.12.30.8 local private ip of iis arr server. bit confused @ how should configure ipsec connection security rule on internet client. the problem face there firewall in-between nat ip address of iis arr server server has private ip address.  my questions is: 1. can use ipsec in way, possibly using ipsec nat-t, if need do, matter of allowing udp port 4500 on firewall between endpoints? , ip address should security connection rule on internet endpoint configured with, should firewall public ip or nat (private) address on iis arr server. i'm assuming need private ip?? the other option move iis arr server dmz , give public ip trying avoid if possible any appreciated. thanks johny hi johny, 1. can use ipsec in way, possibly using

hi, create gpo affect users except domain/local administrators group. use wmi filter? if so, wmi object should using? keith no, make exceptions users wmi filtering not suitable method. in way the solution depends how ou design looks like. if target users in in 1 ou can link gpo ou , affect users within ou. easiest , straight forward approach. if reason linked gpo domain level, affect user accounts. to gain more granular control, can use security group filtering on gpo. there 2 ways: 1. apply group filtering: remove default apply right authenticated users , instead add dedicated custom group this approach makes sense if smaller part of users in scope of gpo shall receive settings 2. deny group filtering: leave  authenticated users on gpo add a group deny gpo apply oermissions via advanced settings. approach makes sense if the larger part of users in scope of gpo shall receive settings, accounts shall not. in case i'd choose deny filter (if cannot go ou based solution). some he

hello we have 2 windows 2003 dc's, 3 windows 2008 r2 file server domain based dfs , dfs-r on 3 servers. of time have problems windows xp sp3 clients. if go folder underneath dfs-share errors "folder not present" or "you have no permissions". if try 8 or 10 or 12 times more can access folder or files. these problems have windows explorer or office products only. have no problems total commander , no problems windows 2000 clients, windows 2003 terminal servers or other windows 2003 servers backup server. couldn't test windows vista or windows 7. we have 30 dfs-shares lot of folders (30000) underneath these shares. don't if problem. regards  hi, you can try run "dfsutil cache referral" command on windows xp system find active targetset provided error message. then check if can access referral \\server\share instead of \\domain\share . as there no dfsutil.exe build in windows xp, need install support tool. windows xp service

just reinstalled wse 2012 rtm bits (i using rc bits).  went flawlessly.  enabled group policy using link on dashboard devices tab.  far good. but after several reboots , several hours, don't see folders redirected , folder redirection share empty (not user folders in it). i tried modifying group policy turn folder redirection off , on again.  rebooted client.  no change. i tried gpupdate /force client pc.  although says worked, folder redirection share still empty , of locations (desktop, docs, etc) still point c:. i don't want reinstall need folder redirection work before start installing on other pcs. ideas? okay, got bottom of this... sort of.  after reviewing gpresult /h checked event log, , saw permissions errors when trying create subfolders under folder redirection/<user>.  don't know happened folder redirection share messed up.  i deleted folder redirection log off of d:\serverfolders via remote desktop, had dashboard recreate it.  working.  g

i have strange issue don't know resolve. here's have: configration: all server windows server 2008 r2 i have domain setup has host hyper-v servers (10 of them). domain controller domain dns server. on host hyper-v servers have multiple virtual servers. of them stand alone (workgroup) , several of them in domain.  all these server use dns server host domain (i not have dns installed on of virtual domain servers). all servers in workgroup have rds , rds licensing on them. one server in each of virtual domains has rds , rds licensing while others servers have rds. problem: this has happened 3 times in past 4 months , issue resolves after hour or two. on 3 of servers in domain, rdp access them lost. tries connect after period of time times out or , 'access denied' button. after while 'applying computer settings' several minutes , logon. however, i'm unable connect other server in domain , pop warning stating no remote desktop license serv
