Error : Connection Error click reset server node to try to connect to the server again

i have installed brand new windows server 2012 r2 instance 8 processor cores , 16gb ram , 2tb disk.

i installed wsus server role , chose quite few classifications (we have large environment servers , desktops ranging xp/2003 way 10 , use 60% of product classifications because have *lot* of microsoft products.

when click on udpates list , set show me "unapproved" "any" wsus client crashes , "error : connection error. error occured trying connect wsus server..." click reset server node try connect server again.

things have tried fix :

1)all windows updates installed internet, nothing out of date.

2)reboot.  allow me load console looking @ lists of updates "all udpates" list crashes again

3)this : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706.  helped until tried approve packages, after approving 2000 died again.

4)restarting wid service, wsus service , iis services (and related services).  nothing!

so no matter do, unstable thing disconnect.

how fix this?

from read 3159706 supposed fix it, fixed 30 seconds, , dead again...

it took call microsoft support solve this.

basically wsusapplicationpool has builtin memory limit of 1.8gb.  if exceeds crash, taking down whole wsus application.  solution go advanced settings application pool , set memory limit 0.  way can use unlimited memory.

from microsoft rep told me, can use whole 1.8gb approving more 500 updates @ time.

this rather tiny limit may have made sense when wsus first released, small installation can have 20,000 updates approve upon installation (just office, windows, visual studio, , exchange, use).  if add drivers, can baloon 60,000 plus.

i'm quite surprised limit set low , default behavior when reached "crash" or "halt", since app pool halted, restarting iis , wsus not fix things.  have unhalt app pool first , restart iis.
