netstat reports over 2000 UDP ports listening


when use netstat -a on win 2k3 server standard edition 32 bit set backup domain controller 1 of our private subnets, reports usual tcp , udp ports plus over 2000 udp ports 49153 65533 listening.  any suggestions may be responsible appreciated.  server has mssql 2k , symantec endpoint protection running on it.

is dns server?

after install security update 953230 on windows server 2003 , down-level platforms, following conditions true:

  • if value of maxuserport registry entry set, ports allocated randomly [1024, maxuserport] range.
  • if value of maxuserport registry entry not set, the ports allocated randomly [49152, 65535] range.
