Viewing JPG and GIF files causes server crash (Windows Server 2008)
i have tested 3 times affects when crashes - far 3 3, don't think it's randomly occuring although i'm not sure if every image causes it.
hi,
have installed desktop experience server 2008? default, feature not installed on windows server 2008. however, can impact performance when open image. please install feature, see if issue still persists.
if hang on problem still exists, please try boot server clean boot.
steps clean boot:
1. click start->run…->type msconfig , press enter
2. click services tab , select hide microsoft services and disable third party services
3. click startup tab , disable startup items
4. click ok , choose restart
5. after reboot, check whether problem still occurs
if server hang on issue still continues in clean boot mode, further troubleshooting, may check in task manager see process takes memory resources.
for example, if svchost takes memory in climbing, need check services running svchost process. other processes such explorer.exe, iexplorer.exe, need check dll files launched processes.
if process service, can use these steps find out applications using of memory:
open task manager, click on processes tab, process using memory , note its' pid (process id).
please note may need go view/select columns menu , make sure pid (process identifier) checked.
once have pid run following command prompt:
tasklist /svc
this should give application associated pid identified in previous step. previous steps, can locate service or application causes server hang issue.
meanwhile, can use reliability , performance monitor track down cause performance issue.
