Restoring Virtualized Domain Controllers
the article above has illustration determine best way restore virtualized dc. i have several questions chart.
1. step titled "deploy vhd against new vm, , restart in normal mode" - must new vm created in hyperv, or can vhd replaced backup?
2. the steps titled "restore virtual machine instance predates failure" - necessary start in dsrm mode , set registry value if backup application consistent, image based backup doing restoring vhdx file?
3. what happen if restart domain controller in condition , go dsrm mode , set "database restored backup" 1?
1. the step titled "deploy vhd against new vm, , restart in normal mode" - necessary create new virtual machine? why can't existing virtual machine used , replace vhdx file?
in scenario, assuming vm failed start. why create new vm , attach vhd file.
2. the steps titled "restore virtual machine instance predates failure" - necessary start in dsrm mode , set registry value if backup application consistent, image based backup doing restoring vhdx file?
when going dsrm mode , doing non-authoritative restore of dc, asking dc take db content other dcs. can apply when have no backup , cannot in time healthy state of dc. in other words, can re-install dc, metadata cleanup (seize fsmo roles if fsmo holder) , promote again. of course, suppose have health dc/gc server in domain before doing that.
by way, not see step required when restore vhdx in chart. please correct me if wrong :)
3. what happen if restart domain controller in condition , go dsrm mode , set "database restored backup" 1?
it non-authoritative restore.
