Trying to set a file association using GPP

hi,

i trying set windows media player default player .asx files using computer configuration ->  control panel -> folder options gpp

here set in preference:

 

action                                     update

 

 

file extension asx
associated class windows media player

 

configure class settings

 enabled
icon file path c:\program files\windows media player\wmplayer.exe
icon index 0
confirm open after download disabled
always show extension disabled
browse in same window disabled

 

 the settings not working correctly. test .asx file still defaults vlc player after restart. rsop reoprts settings have applied successfully.

can guide me muight going wrong?

hi,

based on test, icon of asx file not changed when double-click asx file, windows media player launched. what’s result on side? called, vlc player or windows media player?

if vlc player called, please collect following information research.

on dc, open gpmc, right-click group policy result, choose group policy result wizard, follow wizard collect report of windows 7 system. when finish, right-click in right-panel, choose save report. if other community member analyze report, upload file windows live skydrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/), , paste link here, if not, can send file tfwst@microsoft.com (with thread title or link in email).

and try guy’s suggestion collect group policy preferences debugging log.

WMI Repository 4GB limit - Win 2003 Ent Question

Change home folder default permission?

i have searched on , can't seem find similar trying do. using windows server 2003 active directory. when create new user account on domain, use profile tab specify home directory user. when user logs in first time, active directory creates folder in specified path. working correctly. problem gives user full control on folder. has caused lot of problems because "clever" users have discovered thay can change permission on folder or subfolders beneath it. because don't want staff looking @ "sensitive" files. of course doesn't work since can take ownership of file , give myself permissions. causes trouble failed backups, inability scan these folders viruses, migration new storage etc. on occasion 1 of these users call me , ask file or folder restored, , @ point discover not have backup of files , cannot restore them. give them lecture, have on 2500 users, , can't talk them all. right have create account , login teh folder created, go take away full contr...
