Recovering a WSUS server without using WSUSutil.exe

a lightning strike fired wsus 3.0 server taking 20gb of updates. server has been replaced , managed recover version of wsuscontent folder a backup a few days old. have restored the folder , reconfigured wsus cannot see of updates should available.

the natural option import content using wsusutil.exe  don't have export import knocks option on head.

is there way wsus 'synchronize' restored wsuscontent folder?

the wsusutil utility only downloads approved updates, first consideration.

related fact question: if you've rebuilt server scratch -- maybe don't need approve hundreds of superseded updates never installed on machine ever. (my current server has few hundred approved updates, covers os platforms, 2 versions of office, , several server applications.)

another consideration recovered wsuscontent folder has different sids on acls new server, , files may "invisible" present wsus server. common issue when restoring backups, or more when servers in disconnected environments have content stores manually copied 1 server another. primary clue security dialog on folder properties not able resolve sid stored in acl.
