How to set up DNS when External Domain Name is different than internal domain name
i new dns , trying work on problem, hope have outlined below:
background information: our website hosted outside service provider. our public domain name "public.org" our private domain name "private.org". the url of our website www.public.org.
problem: we have set windows media services on 1 of our internal servers , can access videos via our website using url media.public.org computers outside office (ie home). we can access videos via our website when @ office only if use url media.private.org.
question: in order our internal users access videos via media.public.org url, need in dns make work? i tried setting zone public.org , added cname record media specifying media.private.org primary canonical name. this did work, however, internal users not able access our website. i tried creating record www , did not work either.
any on setting proper dns appreciated.
hi llounsbury,
thanks posting here.
i’d first verify if can resolve our internet domain when @ internal network current dns settings, try execute command “nslookup < media.public.org>” form 1 of internal client , see if can proper internet address of our internet website?
usually suggest set dns forwarder on our internal dns server in order forward domain name query requests unable resolved internal dns server external public dns server , internet address access:
understanding forwarders

configure dns server use forwarders
