Replacing Domain Controllers - reuse IP and Server DNS names?

hello,

we have 2 2008 servers act domain controllers. in planning phase of updating these 2 new 2012 r2 machines. 2008 servers old hardware , want take them out of service. 2 new servers hyper-v guests running 2012 r2.

my question is: preferable reuse server names , ip addresses - old domain controllers new - or should give new dcs new names , ip addresses?

i have lot of devices using static dns - , prefer use same ip addresses old (being demoted) 2008 domain controllers new 2012 dcs - don't know "best practice" or pros , cons of reusing ip , computer names or assigning new.

welcoming thoughts have gone through before.

thanks!

hi

 it depends on needs,as says have many service use old dc hostname , ip.so use scenario

- first add windows server 2012 r2 additional domain controller on domain.

- transfer fsmo roles server 2012 r2 (adc)

- demote server 2008 domain (also check on ad,dns,active directory sites , services updating)

- change hostname , ip of windows server 2012 r2 (same 2008 ip , hostname)

same steps other server 2008 without tranfer fsmo roles.

you can refer article migartion , transfring fsmo roles;
