Restore process did not succeed
i trying recover individual files backed (successfully) windows server 2016 essentials machine. i started dashboard on local machine, (client), attempted recover files stored on server. i logged in local user, selected device, chose recover files , folders, chose local drive (c:).
the file started display after half second (shows 4%) display disappeared , replaced error message:
"the restore process did not succeed
the restore process did not succeed because computer cannot connect server. make sure computer connected network, , try again."
this error appears on 2 machines, both windows 10 pro, build 1703. these 2 machines have been running several years , started windows 7. a third machine fresh install of windows 10 pro , upgraded current build 1703 has no problem whatsoever, works expected , recovers test files without issue.
all 3 machines have host file entry server;
192.168.0.125 server
all 3 machines have adaptors settings show dns server 192.168.0.125. ipconfig run on server shows ip address in fact 192.168.0.125 , server has been reinstalled scratch , problem persists.
it looks me way fix reinstall operating system on 2 legacy machines.
i logged dashboard administrator , still failed.
according description, understanding client failed restore files client computer backup created windows server essentials.
please make sure client device connected essentials network using wired cable. then, try restoration , check result.
>all 3 machines have host file entry server; 192.168.0.125 server.
please try add hosts entry on client using essentials server’s fqdn, entry such below:
192.168.0.125 <server name>.test.com
then, open cmd on client, type below command check dns cache , make sure entry has been added:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /displaydns
then, try restore again.
if problem persisits, please check suggestion mentioned in “troubleshoot computer backup , restore errors in windows server essentials”:
