word 2010 prompts for username and password when opening a document on trusted website
hi guys,
we have website (not sure if site sharepoint site) on our trusted domain asked username , password when trying access it. added site our trusted sites zone , resolved issue when try open word documents prompted usernames , password again if cancel credentials box document opens no issues.
below of steps have taken
- tried opening other non office documents (e.g. pdf, jpeg) , open no issues
- tried opening word documents system had word pad install , not office 2010 , documents open no issues looks it's office 2010 problem
can please advise how can resolve issue , if client issue or issue on web server thanks
hi,
this issue caused office suit itself. when internet explorer opens office document, appropriate office application started path of document. office application then tries access document directly server. differs from other browsers , other file types. browsers download file , call the application to open the file from local cache. however, when occurs, if opened file changed , saved, changes made local copy , not server copy.
to establish richest experience possible, first thing that the office application communicate server determine server type , web authoring protocol available. the application does making options request directly server.
as a new process accessing server, office application is required renegotiate authentication. this method more secure method in new process uses existing authentication established browser.
please try following methods:
- an alternative full functionality calculated risk
- client approaches can reduce impact
- alternative configurations when web server not support dav or reduced functionality acceptable
