Shares unavailable due to some unapparent reason.
we had strange issue today, cant explain. maybe of point me possible cause.
application failing because multiple file share unavailable.
first let me explain setup.
we have corporate forest, exists out of 4 domains. these domains contain various servers. every production site, has own production forest, separated corporate lan firewall. yesterday 2 biztalk server lost connections share on server within production site. means both server a1 , a2 in corporate, no longer connect shares in various production sites @ same time while writing file.
in our troubleshooting tried access share via command-line failed. tried access share third server, which worked. target share available a3, not a1 , a2. other shares on other servers within same production network available server a1 , a2, yet other shares on target not available a1 , a2. while a3 can access shares.
we checked eventvwr on a1 , 2, not find smoking gun. rebooted a1 , a2, still no success. rebooted target server in 1 production site, solved problem site. in end fixed rebooting share server in every effected production site (4).
yet production effected, have explain happened , can prevent issue occurring again.
antivirus:
antivirus cant because 1 target server did not have anti virus installed.
smb signing:
smb signing not enabled default in file shares, , not enabled policy.
accounts:
the security accounts used access share in production sites not locked-out. , able access shares server a3 credentials.
a net use time out "network error 64". checking dumps on firewalls did not show being blocked.
answers provided coming personal experience, , come no warranty of success. else make mistakes.
i see :)
seems nasty type of "the specified network name no longer available.
" error
so , need confirm :
required services: (make sure these services started)
computer browser service
workstation service
server service
netbios on tcp/ip
tcp/ip protocol driver
required tcp/udp protocol ports: (ensure ports not blocked firewall, router or other device)
udp 137
udp 138
tcp 139
if set
maximize throughput file sharing , network applications
hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters\size
your choices registry key 1,2 , 3.
1 = minimize memory used
2 = balance
3 = maximize throughput file sharing , maximize throughput network applications
smb issues:
you can test issue disabling smb2 protocol on windows 2008 server. ( windows 2008 , windows vista, windows 7 supports smb 2 protocol filesharing , windows 2003, xp , earlier versions of os doesnt support smb 2 protocol )
edit menu, point new , , click dword value, type smb2 , set value "0" (zero).
lets see results
g luck
