Client incorrectly showing required updates

hello!

i have problem 1 of clients incorrectly showing required updates. client updated windows xp professional sp3 office professional 2007, , checked update status both microsoft update , belarc advisor (3rd party reporting tool). both tools showing updates installed, wsus showing client missing 57 windows updates related microsoft office 2003. few weeks ago, while computer still wasn't reporting our internal wsus server, uninstalled office 2003 using add/remove programs , have not received error messages. today, rechecked add/remove programs applet , can confirm there not single office 2003 component mentioned there.

windowsupdate.log file shows: 2008-11-27 13:15:24:657 1616 1f1c au   # 0 updates detected, wsus server still reporting 57 missing updates.

any help or idea appreciated :)

thanks, mitoz

an mvp may otherwise, here do:

  1. backup system - image disks best mileage
  2. logon system administrative privileges
  3. disable automatic updates control panel
  4. in add or remove programs, click show updates box @ top of window , office 2003 anythings

from command prompt enter following commands (commands typed in bold) , press enter execute

  1. net stop "automatic updates" && net stop bits
you may message bits not running - looking both not running!
  2. del /f %windir%\windowsupdate.log
  3. rd /s/q %windir%\softwaredistribution
  4. wuauclt /updatenow /resetauthorization

check services (if still in command prompt type services.msc , press enter) - should see automatic updates service started again.

when systems stuck, pretty things going again. lucky , figure out on virtual machine first! important thing best possible backup if production or otherwise important system.
