Real world performance of tiered Storage Spaces on JBODs for HyperV VMs

hi,

has deployed tiered storage spaces + jbods , can share real world experience on performance solution provides?
i've read design articles microsoft:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15200.storage-spaces-designing-for-performance.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn554250.aspx
not talk performance under various conditions.

configuration per jbod 12 ssd , 48 large capacity nl-sas disks.
nl-sas 7200rpm disks not perform under random io , type of io virtual machines tend generate.

wonder performance of vms need access cold blocks stored on nl-sas tier or when active dataset grows beyond ssd tier size.
seems me while vms on ssd tier fast, vms on nl-sas tier slow , continue slow until tiering job move blocks ssd tier.
scary events bootstorms , mass-updates when active dataset grows large compared normal operation.

i'm considering following deployment:
4 node sofs cluster + 4x 60 bay jbods
capacity = @ least 150tb
iops = @ least 16000 acceptable latency
io type = small random, 75% write / 25 % read
number of vms = 1000+

ssd + nl-sas meets capacity reqs, think not deliver required performance.
ssd + sas not meet capacity reqs. need deploy multiple 4x4 sofs clusters, expensive.
sas + nl-sas meet capactity reqs, performance not great without ssd tier. ssds required write cache.
ssd + sas + nl-sas - not supported (only 2 tiers supported in ws 2012 r2).

if can share experience , expertise on designing storage spaces, please do.

thanks,
egils

hi egils,

i not have such environment testing can provide opinion.

as said vms cannot running on ssd tier due size limitation. how creating virtual disks in storage pool , mount onto vms data volumes, files loaded in virtual disks moved ssd tier.

if have feedback on our support, please send tnfsl@microsoft.com.
